Corey Harris Called to Serve in Iraq
Corey Harris, a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves is unexpectedly called up for his second tour of duty to Iraq. Corey’s civil affairs expertise is of particular importance at this critical time for the Iraqi government as they are being trained to take over the responsibilities of running a nation. Corey is proud to serve his country and is excited to be a part of such an important mission.
“When my commanders told me they needed me to return to Iraq, I was glad to accept the call,” he said. “I am dedicated to giving this country the best I have and that means I will have to withdraw my candidacy for the 20th legislative district. I would not be able to serve the people of District 20 as I feel they deserve were I to continue this race. After putting months of hard work and planning into my campaign, I am certainly disappointed that I cannot continue. However, I am excited to fight for Arizonans and the rest of my country by serving in Iraq once again. Hopefully one day I will be given the opportunity to represent Arizonans and work for them in our local government.”
Corey will be leaving for Iraq in the summer, after participating in several more training camps dedicated to expanding his experience. His training will include more in-depth civil affairs studies, as well as learning Arabic so he can communicate more effectively with the Iraqi officials. It is clear from Corey’s dedication to serving his country and his fellowman, and his past experience in active duty that he will be a great asset to the Iraqi people and to the building up of their government. We are proud of Corey and grateful to him and all of our servicemen who sacrifice so much to protect this great country.
